Swimming For Exercise

Swimming could be the best exercise ever.

Did you know that fitness experts say that swimming is the best exercise you can do to workout the most muscles at one time.

Yeah you heard me... THE BEST.

Here's why.  When you are in the water you are essentially weightless.  The amount of pressure on your feet is the exact same amount of pressure on your hands.  This is never true when say running or walking or doing any exercise out of water that requires you to be on your feet.  If the exercise does not require you to be on your feet, like say... crunches, then you get extra stress on your back and neck.  The point is that when you swim you have equal pressure from all sides and parts on your body, making the swim exercise workout your whole entire body evenly and fluidly.  No other exercise is able to do that.

Don't be scared. Just try it.

Common Problems with Swimming

Some of you may be asking... Um... where might I actually swim?

GREAT QUESTION.

A lot of people do not have access to a swimming pool or a lake that they can actually swim in. Well here are some solutions. Typically cities will have public swimming pools and in these public pools they have regulated time for lap swimming. That way you won't have a whole bunch of crazy kids swimming when you are trying to workout.

Second option would be to join a gym that has a pool. Recently they put in a LA Fitness next to my house. It has a pool and it rocks. You can join or switch gym memberships. If you do not have a gym around that has a pool then forget that option.

Third... you can find public access to a lake nearby. There are a few nice lakes next to where I live. The problem there is that lakes may limit you to swimming for exercise in the summer. Unless you live somewhere that it is hot all the time. Then that might work. Or if you live next to the ocean and can swim in a lagoon or something.

Anyway be creative and try to find a place to swim for exercise.

Especially if you have bad joints or knees, then swimming is a must exercise for you. You still get the cardio workout, and the muscle workout. It is an all around awesome workout.

What if I cannot swim?

Well luckily there are tons of great workout programs still available.  Like Tae Bo or 10 Minute Trainer. I suggested swimming as a great option, but not everyone has the ability or opportunity to swim.  The important thing is that you exercise to stay healthy and fit.
